Classes scheduled in the GCARES area
To help those interested in obtaining a ham radio license, the Greene County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (GCARES) is offering three Amateur Radio license classes. In addition to GCARES, the course is supported by the Bellbrook  Amateur Radio Club (BARC), the Upper Valley Amateur Radio Club (UVARC) and the Xenia Weather Amateur Radio Network (XWARN).

Entry-level Technician Class, intermediate level General Class and advanced Extra Class
amateur radio license courses  will meet from 7 to about 9:30 p.m. Sundays beginning Feb. 14.  The courses are designed to prepare students for the technician, general class and extra class llicense exams which will be given at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, April 25.

The Technician Class course will meet in the large conference room at the Beavercreek Township Fire Department (BTFD) Administration Building. The General Class Course will meet in the Training Room at BTFD Fire Station 1. Both facilities are located at the intersection of Dayton Xenia Road and Orchard Lane.

The Extra Class Course will be held in the Training Room at Fairborn Fire Station 2 located at 2200 Commerce Center Blvd. just south of Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd. just east of I-675.

There is no charge for the courses but all students are encouraged to have a copy of the respective ARRL License Manual.  Current editions of each license manual will be available the first two weeks of the courses at a discounted price.  Alternative study guides may be downloaded from the internet.

Classes are open to persons of any age, and no prior experience is necessary.  To register or for additional information, contact Michael Crawford at 937-426-2721, weekday evenings and weekends or email inquiries to kc8gle@earthlink.net.
