Fall 2008 classes scheduled

GCARES is offering three Amateur Radio license classes. In addition to GCARES, the course is supported by the Bellbrook  Amateur Radio Club (BARC), the Upper Valley Amateur Radio Club (UVARC) and the Xenia Weather Amateur Radio Network (XWARN).

An entry-level Technician Class amateur radio license course, an intermediate level General Class license course and the top level Extra Class course will meet from 7 to about 9:30 p.m. Sunday beginning Sept. 14.  The courses are designed to prepare students for the technician, general and extra class license exams which will be given at 6 p.m.Sunday, Nov. 9.

The Technician Class course will meet in the large conference room at the Beavercreek Township Fire Department (BTFD) Administration Building. The General Class Course will meet in the Training Room at BTFD Fire Station 1. Both facilities are collocated at the intersection of Dayton Xenia Road and Orchard Lane.  The Extra Class Course will meet in the Training Room at Fairborn Fire Station 2 located at 2200 Commerce Center Blvd just south of Dayton-Yellow Springs Road just east of I-675.       

There
is no charge for the courses but all students are encouraged to have a copy of the respective ARRL License Manual.  Current editions of each license manual will be available the first two weeks of the courses at a discounted price. Alternative study guides may be downloaded from the internet.

Classes are open to persons of any age, and no prior experience is necessary.  Check back for registration information.
